Each group swapped around the objects they made in the workshop earlier on in the day. With the new objects, using an emotion, a behaviour and a function, we came up with different ways of using these objects.
Our emotion was excitement, behaviour was "not eating on time" and the function was to stop.. So using the 3 objects that are at the top of this photo, we came up with a "tray" system. The user places their meal on the said tray and covers it with the plastic top. When it is time to eat, the user gets an allocated amount of time to get to their food before the tray locks it. Once they get their food, they press the blue round button so that the tray can stop heating the food. Therefore they eat on time, the excitement element is in getting their food during the allocated time and there is a stop function... Quick creative excercises to get our imaginations going.
For our final project of the day we created Bob the Bin.
Bob is a smart bin system. He is the black rubbish bin we all have standing outside, waiting for collection day. Big Bob talks to Little Bob who is the rubbish bin in your kitchen. Big Bob uses an RFID tag and weight sensors to drive himself out for collection on collection day. He knows when he is full and needs to be emptied, and if he isn't over-weight, he is able to drive himself out. If Big Bob has too much rubbish in him, the owner has to go outside and do the dirty work himself.
Compared to the recycling bin, Little Bob's lid is a lot harder to open - he tries encouraging his owner to recycle more. He can also tell how full or empty he is, and when he gets full, he flashes a light to let his owner know that it is time for him to be emptied into Big Bob.
We are hoping to encourage the user to recycle more and therefore save money on the rubbish bins, and we are also hoping to remind them to put their bins out for collection day, which, lets be honest, everybody forgets once in a while.
